Federal Budget – Information about Proposed Changes to the Capital Gains Inclusion Rate

April 26, 2024 | John Ord & Tim Waller

As many of you are aware, on April 16, 2024, the 2024 Federal Budget was presented in the House of Commons. One of the proposed measures announced in the Budget is an increase to the capital gains inclusion rate for individuals, corporations and trusts.

With tax efficiency playing an important part in building wealth, you may be wondering how this proposed change may impact you. We’re pleased to provide this article, Planning for the proposed increase to the capital gains inclusion rate, which outlines what’s known about the proposed changes at this time, as well as potential planning considerations.

It is entirely possible that this specific change to the capital gains inclusion rate will not impact you or your investment strategy with us at RBC Dominion Securities. However, we are aware that many investors may be concerned about what they have heard, and we wanted to provide some helpful information to consider.

Click here for a quick summary of some important items that may be relevant to you, should this change become official on June 25th, 2024

I’m sure a lot of our clients have heard about the ongoing situation with specific U.S. banks. We wanted to provide you with the attached article which provides some up-to-date information. It is easy to read and understand. We encourage you to take a few minutes to read this article.

For our discretionary clients, please be mindful that our equity model has ZERO exposure to U.S. banks.

Election reaction: Quick takes on the market

November 4, 2020 | John Ord

We wanted to take this opportunity to provide a commentary from our Global Portfolio Advisor Committee regarding the current status of the US election.

With votes still to be counted in key swing states with razor-thin margins, it looks like things are just beginning to get sorted out. But the equity market has been taking things in stride so far, and we explain why investors should do the same.

Since the report was written yesterday, Joe Biden has been declared the victor in the states of Wisconsin and Michigan, yet the report remains relevant in all aspects.

Read the special report here.

Global Insight Weekly Report - October 29, 2020

October 29, 2020 | John Ord

We wanted to send this out to you as recent days have seen volatility start to increase again in the markets, and there remains an overhanging sense of uncertainty among investors, plenty of which has to do with the upcoming result of the US election.

As per the attached report: several forces have driven these recent surges of volatility (lack of second US fiscal stimulus package; renewed COVID-19 lockdowns in Europe; US election). In our view: although we expect this bumpy ride to continue, we think the greatest deteriorations in economic conditions and the equity markets are likely in the rearview mirror.

Please take some time to review the attached Global Insight Weekly report.
