Panel of Experts:

Robert Hogue
Assistant Chief Economist, RBC

Robert Hogue is responsible for providing analysis and forecasts on the Canadian housing market and provincial economies. His publications include Housing Trends and Affordability, Provincial Outlook and provincial budget commentaries. In his functions, he is frequently called to comment on the economy both internally within RBC and externally with clients and the media.

Douglas Holt
Associate Vice President, Investments, Alberta Innovates

Doug has over 20 years of experience in the fields of financial services, technology and education, managing high functioning teams, and designing and implementing corporate strategies. His financial services experience is both buy side and sell side with a focus on credit analysis and structured finance. In his current role as the Associate Vice President, Investments for Alberta Innovates, Doug oversees the corporation’s research and innovation investment into Alberta’s post-secondary institutions, entrepreneurs and accelerators.

Shelley Kuipers
Co-Founder, Co-CEO, General Partner & Growth Officer, The 51

Shelley has over 30 years’ experience in technology, entrepreneurship and early-stage investing. She is currently the Co-Founder and Co-CEO of The51, a Financial Feminist platform and venture fund, where current and aspiring investors come together to democratize access to capital for women and gender-diverse entrepreneurs. Prior to co-founding The51, Shelley was Co-founder of IOVIA, a consumer participation platform, acquired by Creator.co; Founder of a crowdsourcing company, Chaordix, acquired by Benevity; and Co-founder of a software development and marketing firm, Stormworks, acquired by Solium Capital.

Sandi Gilbert
CEO InterGen, Founder and CEO DealPoint Capital

Sandi is involved with several ventures focused on supporting entrepreneurs as they navigate through start-up to scale-up. She is the founder and CEO of DealPoint, an online platform that facilitates capital raises in the private markets. She is also the CEO of InterGen, a private venture fund and venture builder designed to enable high potential companies to seize global opportunities. Prior to DealPoint and InterGen, Sandi was a partner at CCI Strategic; on the advisory committee at the National Research Council of Canada and The Alberta Securities Commission; and on several Boards, including the Chair of the Board for the National Angel Capital Organization.

Kirk Muise
Regional Vice President, RBC Business Financial Services AB&T

As Regional Vice President, Business Financial Services for Alberta and Territories, Kirk leads a team of professionals providing multifaceted financial services and superior advice for business clients. Originally from Nova Scotia, Kirk has over 27 years of financial industry experience and has progressively advanced his career. He has held various senior leadership roles across Atlantic Canada in Human Resources, Retail Banking, Financial Planning, and Commercial Financial Services prior to be being appointed to his current role in November 2020.
