In case you haven’t been following U.S. President Donald Trump’s twitter handle of late, as of May 10, trade negotiations between the U.S. and China deteriorated further.

Just as it seemed a trade deal was in reach, the U.S. and China have ratcheted up the hardline rhetoric, stoking the embers of the trade war.

• Following a strong rebound at the beginning of the year, equity markets have shifted attention to slowing growth in the Big 3 economies of the U.S., Europe, and China.

Equity markets have rallied very strongly since their December lows. Many of them now in overbought territory, we would expect them to trade within a range in the short term. In fact, it wouldn’t be unusual for them to retrace some of their gains.

Despite some rather "frightening" market results this past month, global growth seems on a solid footing, and markets should resume their upward trajectory once the US mid-terms are over.
