Hope for Youth - Uganda

Five years ago Brian and his siblings each committed to sponsor a young Ugandan girl through high school.

Hope for Youth – Uganda is a registered NGO providing Humanitarian support and Social Services to deprived youth via Education, Health and self-help projects that enhance socio-economic emancipation.

Brian sponsored Fatuma, who has now moved on to the candidate class where she will be writing her “O” Level national exams in November.

Community Service & Philanthropy

Our partner, Brian Montgomery, took on the role of volunteer Coordinator of the Rockcliffe Rinks from 2001 to 2017. During this time he launched and built a crew of 140 neighbours, called the Rockcliffe Hosers, to flood and maintain these rinks. Brian then spearheaded a community plan to build and manage a brand new sports pad and fieldhouse. With widespread support from the community and from all levels of government, and with financial support from the City of Ottawa and private donors, construction was completed in December 2018.

Brian has also served on the finance committee of the Ashbury College Foundation and for several years was Vice Chair of the Friends of the Village of Rockcliffe Park Foundation.

While on vacation at his cousin’s surf lodge in Northwestern Nicaragua in 2014, Brian and his wife Jenn joined a consortium of Canadians to purchase, and save from development, a 20 acre spit of land at the mouth of the Padre Ramos Natural Reserve. The estuary is the largest in Central America, and this particular acreage is one of only two nesting grounds for the Eastern Hawksbill turtle, an endangered species.
