It is not untrue that Brian Montgomery and Chris Ouimet met at a gym, rather than some hi-brow investment seminar. Brian maintains that Chris was eavesdropping on his phone call, post-workout. Chris says he was just being friendly. Either way, these two struck up a conversation and the Christopher Ouimet recruitment drums started beating. Eventually, and we do mean eventually, (methodical would be an apt term for Mr. Ouimet)  Chris joined Brian’s long-established team in January 2019. Since then, the pair have become fast friends and they work together on all aspects of the investment management including portfolio construction and wealth management ideas and solutions.

Brian has been with RBC Dominion Securities for 30 years now, and many of his original clients are still with us. It’s quite something to be able to span a generation in helping people and their burgeoning families. As many of our clients move into their “mixed retirement/work years” and start to rely on their portfolios for income there is a measure of satisfaction that we’ve done right by them, over a very long period of time. And when the children of these clients start investing with us, as they have, it is as if we are transported back to the 1990s again, when the interactions centered largely around financial education.

A genuine Maritimer, Olivia Jackson had moved from Halifax 8 years ago with her husband Tom, future dog and future kids. She had an 11am call one day with a firm to accept a position (at Chris’ old firm!) when Brian,  showing his usual excellent timing, called her at 9am that same morning and snatched her away as a gift to our clients ( sorry not sorry, other firm…). Olivia is known for her attention to detail, and clients have come to rely on her for quick resolutions to any issues or problems that may arise with their investment or wealth management plans.

So that’s the backstory on our team.  We all seem to get along pretty well, support each other, have become friends, and we all really like our clients. This COVID thing is a bit of a pain in that we’re sequestered in our respective homes, but we’ll get through this and we look forward to meeting up with our clients in the office someday soon.
