Miles turns from grumpy to happy again.

The Sun Still Shines

So I have been accused of being too grumpy in my last blog.  “A little negative, gloomy, and need to vent.”   Okay so maybe I was, and it was a good test to see who actually reads my blog.  Thank you for all those that participated in my informal survey.

Having just chatted with Nancy, I realize that the true reason I am so grumpy is that Denise has me/us on a no snacking and no alcohol diet, and I really miss martinis and anything chocolate.  Damn.  It’s all her fault really.  I do feel great for my improved eating and drinking habits though.

The day after I blogged last, the markets took off for a 900 point gain.  I was going to re-blog about how I was smiling again yet the gains lasted all but half a day.  Figures.  The whacky and crazy ways of the world continue.

All is not lost nor am I about to jump from a tall street curb to the detriment of my ankles.  We really are hanging in there very well considering the decline in the markets YTD.  We have all been here before and this too shall pass.  It’s just a matter of when.

The new issue to deal with is sentiment around the Federal Reserve raising rates too aggressively and putting the economy into recession.  Fed Chair, Jerome Powell, indicated that they are going to take a measured approach to raising rates and if they see inflation moving in the right direction (down) then there won’t be the need for further tightening after the next two, half percent increases in June and July.  Of course US CPI came in a touch higher than expected this week, which has halted any rally in the markets.  Today is obviously not the point at which the markets turn up.  That will have to come another day.

On a personal note…

Brunswick recovered well from his neutering and is scheduled to get his eyes lasered in a couple of weeks.  He’ll be as good as new soon enough.

I managed to get the gardens cleaned up in Whitby this past weekend.  Old brush cut away and topped up with triple mix.  I loved the 1 cubic meter bags they deliver to the driveway.  No mess!  Had to remove five emerald cedars that died over the year.  That is going to be a chore to replace those as they are big trees.

The major coup for me this week has been to get all four neighbours siding onto our Whitby house to agree to split the cost of new fencing.  The price was reasonable and my fence guy can even do the job at the end of June. Some miracles do happen!   It will be nice to replace the 40 year old fence that is there today.  That is not a typo.

That’s it for today.  The sun is shining and the weather is wonderful.  Puts a little spring in my step.  Hope the same for you.  Be safe and stay healthy.
