Solo Seniors: How to age alone and well

Actionable advice to stay in control, secure, and connected

Wednesday, January 24, 2024 | 1:00 p.m. ET

I would like to start by wishing you and the family a very HAPPY NEW YEAR. I hope you had a nice holiday to spend time with loved ones.

The number of Canadians living to 100 and beyond is increasing exponentially. If you add to that Canada’s 48% divorce rate and women outliving men by 4.4 years on average, most of us will spend a portion of our senior years alone. That said, there is a difference between being alone and feeling lonely. While loneliness can be as unhealthy as smoking 15 cigarettes a day, aging alone can be fulfilling with the right planning and support systems in place.

Join us to explore the impact of loneliness on your mental, physical, and financial wellbeing and how to stay secure, in control, connected, and healthy if you are aging alone. This discussion is not only for ones who are currently living alone but also for anyone who anticipate at some point in future, may live alone. Please feel free to forward this invite to anyone you know who will benefit from this presentation or discussion. Details are as follows.

I trust this message finds you and your loved ones in good health and high spirits.

It is with immense pleasure and gratitude that I inform you of the top charities you chose over the last few weeks. These were chosen from all the responses we received over the last 3-4 weeks. Your insight and commitment to making a difference in this world is remarkable.

The charities you chose are the following:

  • The Food Bank (50%)

  • The Cancer Society (19%)

  • The Covenant House (10%)

  • Following tied for 4th, 5th, and 6th (7%)

    • Sick Kids Hospital

    • The Alzheimer's Society

    • Medecins Sans Frontieres

These choices reflect not just a list but a testament to your dedication in championing causes that matter. In Lieu of our customary annual Christmas party, I am thrilled to personally make donations to all these remarkable charities.

Your involvement and Enthusiastic input have been instrumental in shaping our collective impact. Your commitment to making a difference is truly inspiring.

On behalf of my family at home and at the office, I extend my great appreciation for your input in selecting these charities.

I hope this email finds you and your family well and in good spirits as we approach the holiday season. My family (at work and at home) and myself, cherished the tradition of hosting a Year End Christmas party to celebrate the year's successes and spread holiday cheer. However, this year again, due to overwhelming feedback we have received from you all, I will be taking a different approach by making a positive impact on those in need.

In lieu of our traditional Christmas party, I will personally (not RBC) allocate the budget to support charitable causes that hold a special place in the hearts of our cherished clients. As the year end Party was primarily for us all to celebrate together, your input is invaluable in making this decision.

I warmly invite you to share your suggestions on which charities I should consider for our holiday donations. Your recommendations will play a crucial role in ensuring that my contributions align with the values and causes that matter most to you.

Please send your suggestions directly to me at Karim.Visram@RBC.com by November 30th. We will pick the top five charities submitted.

I am sincerely grateful for your participation in our annual tradition of giving back. I am genuinely excited to see the positive impact we can make together this holiday season.

Thank you for being a part of this meaningful change in our holiday tradition. Your contributions to this effort will make a significant difference in the lives of those less fortunate, and we (Team Karim and family at home) could not do it without you.

Wishing you a joyful holiday season filled with warmth and happiness.

 Warm regards,

 Karim

Canadian Perspectives on Estate Planning

Actionable advice to overcome obstacles to complete your estate plan

Presented by RBC Wealth Management Canada

Tuesday, October 24, 2023 | 1:00 p.m. ET

As we have talked about this issue many times before, having an up-to-date Will and powers of attorney are the cornerstone of an effective estate plan. Join us to understand how you and your family can overcome the barriers we face when planning our estates. The panel dispels the widely held myths associated with estate planning and discusses how to approach difficult end-of-life/estate planning conversations in a compassionate way and the actions you can take at any stage of life to complete your powers of attorney, Wills and estate plan.

Navigating the cyber universe:

How to protect yourself in a tricky online world

Tuesday, June 27, 2023

10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. PT
11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. MT
12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. CT
1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. ET
2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. AT

I wanted to invite you to a very important presentation we are having. Protecting your assets is a central part of any wealth management strategy. While most of us plan for the usual threats – taking precautions such as installing home-security systems and working with trusted advisors – not all of us are as vigilant when it comes to the possibility of becoming targets or victims of cybercrime.

Join us for a timely and informative discussion featuring Adam Evans, RBC Vice President Cyber Operations & Chief Information Security Officer, hosted by David Agnew, Chief Executive Officer, RBC Wealth Management Canada. Adam and Dave will discuss security in the cyber universe today, including key threats and scams, how RBC Wealth Management works to protect you and your wealth, and the steps you can take to protect yourself while online. This is a very important topic and as such I hope you and other family members will attend this presentation. If you have any questions, please feel free to call any member of my team at 416-956-8888.

Thanks,

 Karim

December 9, 2022

After a tremendous response over the past month, it is with great pleasure I announce that the top charities picked this year by you were:

1. CAMH

2. Daily Bread Food Bank

3. Covenant House

4. Make-A-Wish Foundation

As a reminder, this donation is being made in place of our annual Christmas Brunch that we had prior to Covid. This is the third year we have made these donations instead of having the celebration. I would very much appreciate if you can participate in a short survey at the bottom of this note and provide feedback on what we should do in 2023. Should we continue with these annual charitable donations or resume our Christmas Brunch in 2023?

Since there were many other very worthwhile charities that were chosen by you, I have decided to donate to the Top 4 instead of the Top 3 as was originally planned. All charities are worthwhile, especially at this time of the year, as the need is so great. I wish we could donate to all of them.

In addition to the charities above, I have also donated to Focus Humanitarian Canada and Friends of Amani Canada throughout the year as I have personal connections to these charities. Total Donations I have made this year again is approximately $50,000.

I thank you all for helping us choose the charities and for giving us feedback below. On behalf of my family and team, I would like to wish you and your families a very happy holiday season and a joyous New Year. Please stay safe.

Warm regards,

Karim
