The opening ceremony kicks off the Rio 2016 Olympic Games tonight at 7pm and then its 17 days of athletic awesomeness.

Competing from every corner of the world, from all cultures, religions and backgrounds – more than 10,500 athletes from 206 countries will compete at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games from August 5 to 21 this year. With 306 sets of medals to be won, the Olympic Games will feature 28 sports – including rugby sevens and golf (which were added for this year) at 38 venues in and around Rio de Janeiro, the first South American city to host the summer Olympic Games.

At RBC we are proud to be the longest standing sponsor of the Canadian Olympic Team since 1947. With 18 RBC Olympians striving to reach the podium to hear Canada’s national anthem played, here are a few ways you can support our athletes and celebrate the XXXI Olympiad with my fantastic partners at RBC Royal Bank:

Get on Snapchat – We’re excited to connect with Olympic fans through Snapchat and have built a sponsored lens for the first two days of competition (August 6 & 7) to celebrate Team Canada. This is our first time partnering with Snapchat so make sure to check it out. Or at least get your kids to show you how it works.

Send Your Well Wishes to Athletes - At two branch locations in downtown Toronto (Royal Bank Plaza & WaterPark Place), you have the opportunity to send our Canadian Olympic athletes a photo along with well wishes through interactive media walls as well as share through your own social channels.

Watch the Olympic Games at Royal Bank Plaza – At the corner of Front St & Bay St in downtown Toronto, visit the outdoor viewing lounge during the first week of competition (Aug 8–12). This dynamic space will allow you to enjoy the Olympic broadcast while also learning about RBC’s Olympic history.

Help future Olympians through Mobile Banking – Integrating our Olympic sponsorship with our Mobile Banking business, RBC launched a contest offering the chance to win a $25,000 Someday trip to the next Olympic Games. For every download/log in to the RBC Mobile app, users provide their consent and RBC will donate $1 to the Canadian Olympic Foundation to support Canada’s future Olympians. The contest runs from July 15 until the end of the Olympic Games.

Rio 2016 will be the most live Olympics ever with the networks and digital platforms of NBCUniversal presenting an unprecedented 6,755 hours of programming. If you can’t be in front of a TV, NBC is also live sweating on NBCOlympics.com and the NBC sports app.
