It takes a village

Last night, Hilary put on her best pantsuit and made history.

She officially became the first woman to ever say to a major US party, “I accept your nomination for President of the United States.”

Her acceptance speech last night for the Democratic party’s presidential nomination drew 27.8 million TV viewers and no matter what party you’re in or how you feel about Clinton, it was a historical moment for the US to see the first woman become the nominee of a major party.

During her speech, Hillary Clinton reminded the country that it still “takes a village” to raise a family and a country (here is a clip from her famous “It Takes a Village” speech during the 1996 Democratic National Convention),

“Twenty years ago I wrote a book called "It Takes a Village." And a lot of people looked at the title and asked, what the heck do you mean by that? This is what I mean. None of us can raise a family, build a business, heal a community or lift a country totally alone. America needs every one of us to lend our energy, our talents, our ambition to making our nation better and stronger. I believe that with all my heart. That's why "stronger together" is not just a lesson from our history, it's not just a slogan for our campaign, it's a guiding principle for the country we've always been and the future we're going to build, a country where the economy works for everyone, not just those at the top”.

Wise words that we all live by – as I do personally and professionally. Professionally, the village I rely on every day is the reason that I chose to build my Wealth Management business at RBC. There is no one keeper of all the good ideas and I know that if I want to offer my clients the best advice, I need access to the most brilliant minds and experts on the street at my fingertips. I know with confidence that beyond the actual portfolio advice that our clients seek us out for that our true added value comes through Steve & Ted (my dedicated Accountant and Financial Planner), Connie (my Will and Estate Lawyer), Barrington & Tracey (my Insurance specialists), Mark (my Business Owner specialist), Noushin (my amazing associate), Caroline (my fantastic branch manager), the Portfolio Advisory Group (my team of brilliant CFAs) and more amazing people who are working together in a coordinated effort to give you the best advice when you need it. These folks are just the tip of the iceberg and are part of a wealth management army we’ve built at DS for the benefit of our clients - at no additional costs – because we know that helping you keep more of what you are earning, while growing and preserving your wealth, is what makes the real difference.

So, while we see Hillary at the podium with such strength and confidence, we know that she has her team of advisors and supporters behind the podium – just like my team is my village. It truly takes a village to do great things and we believe in it so much that we are constantly re-investing millions back into the wealth management platform each year to make sure that we are always providing you with the best of breed.

With so much going on and information coming at us from every angle, it's sometimes hard to keep your finger on the pulse of what's happening. In an effort to keep you in-the-know and provide you with some conversation nuggets for the weekend, I've compiled the following hit list to fill your conversation pipeline.

Now you are in-the-know with Word on the Street.
