Julyna

Last night, I attended the third annual Julyna Fundraising Gala. Like most grassroot initiatives, it has taken a while for the fundraiser to catch on, but the month of July is almost synonymous with Julyna as November is to Movember. That said, I still had a few people around the office ask me what the heck 'Julyna' was last night as I mentioned my plans for the evening...

Julyna is more than a catchy name. It’s a charitable organization aimed at raising awareness of cervical cancer and the spread of HPV in women. The non-profit was founded in 2011 by my best friend's sister and has since raised more than $100,000 for cervical cancer research. Needless to say, last night was a fun & successful evening filled with good friends, good music and lively conversation - all for a good cause. To learn more about Julyna click here.

Before heading out to the gala last night, I caught some of CBC's Lang & O'Leary Exchange interview with BCE's George Cope. George is not happy with foreign competitors like American broadcasting companies and services (like Netflix), to say the least. He confidently confirmed that BCE Inc. is likely to scale back efforts to bring advanced cell phone services to rural Canada if large foreign telecoms like Verizon Communications Inc. are allowed to enter the Canadian market under preferential rules and strongly advocated for a "level playing field". Read more about how Verizon considering the purchase of Wind Mobile and Mobilicity could affect Canada here.

Enjoy the weekend.
