There has been no shortage of commentary these past few weeks regarding the various economical themes affective global markets this year. This month, my brilliant Portfolio Advisory Group released a jam-packed Global Insight Monthly (in addition the daily and weekly insights posted on my website here) which includes RBC’s views on asset classes, commodities, currencies, and the economy. In this month’s edition the following themes are presented:

  • Loonie Tunes: Actions of the BoC and Fed will likely drive the next big trend shifts for the Canadian dollar.
  • Wild, Wild East: Valuations in Asia ex-Japan may stay depressed until there is some clarity about China.
  • “Later This Year” Is Here! The Fed seems ready to kick off its rate hike cycle in September. But a new risk warrants more focus—heightened volatility.
  • Global Equity: Stormy Weather. Despite market turbulence, we think the secular bull has room to run. The U.S. economy should provide support.
  • Matt Barasch’s Video Commentary: See page 1, lower left corner for a video link of Matt’s thoughts about the market and highlights in Global Insight. You can also see him live and in person on Thursday, Sept 17th at the third annual Stocks, Suits, Scotch event. Contact me directly to RSVP.

I also received a different sort of commentary this week from my good friend Sheetal Maya Nanda who is the amazing, well-rounded and passionate principle lawyer at SN Legal. Anything but traditional, SN Legal is an innovative law firm that aims to modernize the delivery of legal services in a historically changeless industry. While Sheetal’s main practice areas include immigration law, corporate matters and wills & estates – her true passion is entertainment law because of her love for the world of cinema – and lucky us, she knows a thing or two about TIFF.

The 40th Toronto International Film Festival kicks off on September 10th and single tickets will be available to the general public for all screenings beginning this weekend on September 6, 2015. With 399 films from 71 countries screening in 11 days, it’s never easy to choose which films to watch – so, while I haven’t found a mathematical formula for picking films at TIFF, Sheetal has done the homework for us by scrutinized the film lineup and narrowing it down to her top ten films (in no particular order) worth checking out. Check out her top 10 list here.
