Professional & Academic: Thomas joined RBC Dominion Securities in 2016. Before that, he worked for 10 years in commercial real estate. However, he always had a passion for finance and economics and working with people on a more personal level. So, he left his well-established role and made a mid-career change into the financial services industry.
Since joining Dominion Securities, Thomas has repeatedly qualified for RBC’s prestigious President’s Club, which honours those who demonstrate a solid commitment to client experience, integrity and an excellent work ethic.
Thomas earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Simon Fraser University and is licensed in securities and life insurance.
Personal: Thomas’ modest upbringing in small-town Nova Scotia instilled a solid work ethic and – perhaps more importantly – an excellent appreciation for financial literacy and prudent financial management. He now lives on the North Shore with his wife and two young sons. Thomas and his wife have strong international connections and frequently visit the Philippines, India and other parts of Asia.
Hobbies and Community Involvement: Outside of work and family, Thomas enjoys playing hockey, golf and boxing. He grew up playing competitive hockey and coached minor hockey for several years while completing his degree. After graduation, he continued his involvement with the sport as a skating instructor.
Thomas believes in giving back to the community and is actively involved with several non-profit organizations, including United Way of the Lower Mainland. In addition, he volunteers as a coach and mentor for a free after-school hockey program for underprivileged youth in East Vancouver.
