RBC Global Insight Monthly - March 2024
I am pleased to share the latest investment strategy report from RBC Wealth Management—Global Insight, which provides our current thoughts on asset classes, the economy, and timely issues that impact investment strategy. This month’s highlights include:
Four for 2024: Key things to know about U.S. elections
As presidential elections have become more contentious, perceptions have risen that the stock market’s fate can hang in the balance depending on who wins. We think this gives election outcomes too much weight. There are four principles to keep in mind during this controversial election season.
A worldwide wave of elections
2024 marks a case of rare planetary alignment, with close to half the world’s population heading to the polls. While the brightest spotlight will fall on the U.S. election, we focus on elections beyond the U.S. and why they matter to investors.
Global equity: Waiting room
The probability of a U.S. recession arriving remains uncomfortably elevated. New market highs also can’t be ruled out. A watchful approach is called for.
U.S. Recession Scorecard: Defying the odds, for now
The U.S. economy continues to confound expectations, but we can’t dispense the lingering feeling that the economy isn’t out of the woods yet.

This type of account is a mix between a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) and a Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA). Please click the link below to learn more and help you decide if an FHSA is suitable for you.
Canada's Housing Market Outlook
Not out of the woods yet
Anyone expecting smooth sailing ahead for the housing market got a reality check in February. Month-to-month drops in home resales in several of Canada’s major markets were a reminder that very challenging affordability conditions still heavily constrain many buyers—despite emerging signs of a market turnaround in the previous two months. Reports from local real estate boards showed February’s backsteps partly reversed advances made at seasonal low points in December and January.
