Michael entered the financial business in 1994 while studying Commerce at Saint Mary’s University. "My first real job outside of my family business was as a part-time Teller for  the Royal Bank of Canada. It was a great way to learn the business from the ground up.”  
After graduating, Michael pursued a career with RBC. He has worked in various positions and communities in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. "My desire to help people and my love of the investment business lead me to pursue the Personal Financial Planning designation. The time I spent working as a Financial Planner in RBC branches has given me invaluable experience.” Michael spent several years as an award winning Financial Planner at the Spring Garden Road branch of RBC in Halifax. Michael now runs a wealth management practice from the RBC Dominion Securities office at Purdy’s Wharf on the Halifax waterfront.
Michael is dedicated to continuing professional education. "This business is always changing and requires a commitment to keeping up to date in order to provide my clients with innovative investment strategies. My position and my clients require me to be informed.”  In addition to the Personal Financial Planning designation, Michael also holds the Trust and Estate Practitioners designation from the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and an MBA from Dalhousie University.
As an accomplished advisor, Michael works with both public and private investors who require a premium level of expertise and experience in investment management and financial planning. His practice is designed around using proven investment strategies and providing comprehensive wealth management services to a limited number of qualified clients. Through a specialized clientele, Michael can focus his time and effort on developing creative wealth management strategies for their specific needs.
Michael lives in Halifax and is actively involved in the community. When he isn’t in the office, Michael enjoys a maritime lifestyle with his family. Traveling Atlantic Canada together is one of their favorite activities.

Mark Myers joined RBC Dominion Securities in 2014, after graduating with honours from the Business Administration - Investment Management Program offered through the Nova Scotia Community College. He has taken numerous industry courses including the Canadian Securities Course, Financial Planning, Canadian Insurance Course, Personal Financial Service Advice, and the Life License Qualification Program in Nova Scotia and is currently working on completing Wealth Management Essentials.

As well as accepting orders, providing quotes, issuing wire transfers, cheques, and opening accounts, Mark handles all administrative requests.

Mark is a volunteer firefighter and an avid outdoorsman. He spends his free time hiking, fishing, travelling when the opportunity arises, and renovating his 1940's era home - which he believes is a never ending endeavour.

Mary received her Bachelor of Science from Dalhousie University in 1988 and her Bachelor of Commerce from Saint Mary's University in 1990. She is a Chartered Professional Accountant and a Chartered Accountant and has completed and tutored the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants' In-Depth Tax Course.Prior to joining RBC in 2008, Mary was providing professional services to individuals and their owner-managed entities, specializing in tax planning. During her career, Mary has been employed by two of the large public accounting firms where she advised on the tax consequences of mergers, reorganizations along with estate and trust planning.Mary's role is to work with and support your advisor in preparing and presenting comprehensive Compass Financial Plans for clients.

Paul deJager, B.Sc., MBA, CFP, CLU, CHS Estate Planning Specialist
Paul can help you protect the wealth you have worked to build through innovative insurance-based strategies that minimize the impact of taxes on your estate. Paul has been employed in the financial services industry since 1998, and has extensive experience working with a number of Canada's largest insurance companies. He is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and holds the Certified Health Specialist (CHS) designation.

Sharon Avery, LL.B. Will & Estate Consultant
Sharon earned her Bachelor of Laws degree from Dalhousie in 2006, a Bachelor of Public Relations degree from Mount Saint Vincent University(1996) and a diploma in Community Services (1986).
Before pursuing her law degree, Sharon spent over ten years in senior roles within the not-for-profit sector in the Atlantic Region managing corporate partnerships, community & individual relationships and media relations.
Sharon was in private practice for a large regional firm, and practiced in the areas of medical defence, health law, estate ligitation, Wills, estates, and trusts prior to joining RBC Dominion Securities.
