Fierce headwinds to economic growth - May 2022

Eric Lascelles. Text: Monthly economic webcastIn this month’s webcast, RBC Global Asset Management’s Chief Economist, Eric Lascelles, shares his thoughts on the current economic situation. Despite a swift pick-up in economic activity after the Omicron wave, global economies still face a variety of challenges for growth over the rest of the year. Supply chains are doing slightly better, but Russian sanctions and China’s lockdowns aren’t helping matters. For consumers, some spending growth is likely but uncertain as prices continue to soar. Still, for all of these headwinds, slower growth may just be the best path toward economic stability in the near term. Eric also provides an update on the war in Ukraine, broadening inflation, recession risk, and central banks.
