What is the equity selloff saying about the investment outlook?

We regard the pullback as something that should be endured on the way to further market gains instead of posturing that it's “something worse.”

Open laptop and hand holding mobile device. Both screens are showing graphs and tables representing shifts in the equity markets. After the U.S. equity market delivered its strongest and longest post-trough rally since at least the 1960s, with the S&P 500 Index surging 114 percent from March 2020 through early January 2022, several factors have come together to push the broad averages lower over the past three weeks, raising the prospect that equity markets may be undergoing the first meaningful correction since this bull market got underway 18 months ago.

If you own an active business through a private Canadian corporation, you may find the following tax planning checklist helpful. A couple helpful tips found in this article include considering an estate freeze to capitalize the value of your assets (i.e. your shares), and transfer the future growth of your assets, and their associated tax liability, to the next generation; or consider setting up an Individual Pension Plan (IPP) to maximize your retirement savings (beyond the level that an RRSP permits) and lower the tax burden of the company.
