In our blog post this week, we are featuring the latest economic update video from Eric Lascelles, Chief Economist with RBC Global Asset Management, Vaccine progress, with new forecasts for inflation and global growth. We’ve also included an article that looks deeper into the U.S. Federal Reserve’s June meeting that opened the door to asset purchase tapering and interest rate hikes, Is the Fed on the road to raising interest rates?

Earlier this month, Hospice Wellington’s Volunteer Engagement Coordinator, Dale Gellatly, shared a presentation on Advance Care Planning. We have included the event replay link below, and encourage you to watch the video and share it with your loved ones to help start the conversation on the importance of Advance Care Planning.

In the latest Take 2 Minutes article, the focus is on VPNs (Virtual Private Networks). You may have heard or seen ads for VPNs. They might sound technical, but what are they really? What do they do, and most importantly, do you need one to keep yourself secure on the web? Use the link below to find out more.

Over the past few weeks we’ve been sharing information about our team ride in the Tour de Guelph. Our team gathered together to ride in this annual fundraising event last Wednesday, and we are excited to share our ride video with you this week.

As always, we end our weekly blog post with a few good news stories from in and around our community.

Please note that our office will be closed on Canada Day, July 1, but we will be back answering your phone calls and emails on Friday, July 2. Also, our weekly newsletter will not be published next week, but will be in your inbox the following Friday.

Vaccine progress, with new forecasts for inflation and global growth

Vaccination efforts continue to progress while the Delta variant persists, especially across emerging market countries. In the developed world, where many economies have reopened, RBC Global Asset Management’s Chief Economist, Eric Lascelles, looks at consumer behaviours and other post-pandemic trends. Finally, he shares updated inflation forecasts from the Fed, and explores expectations around upcoming rate hikes and inflation.

The U.S. Federal Reserve struck a more hawkish note than markets expected at its June meeting, driving bond prices lower and yields higher across the Treasury curve. Although we share the view that the meeting is important in understanding future Fed policy moves, we would caution that the initial market reaction likely overstates the impact of the changing Fed projections and the language of the post-meeting statement.

A VPN is a Virtual Private Network. When you use a VPN on your device, it securely connects you to an online network. Using a VPN can be one part of keeping information more private each time you use your devices.

Tour de Guelph Community Ride

This week, the Elinesky Schuett team gathered together, socially distanced of course, to ride in the Tour de Guelph Community Ride, raising funds for The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital and the Rotary Clubs of Guelph South and Guelph Trillium.

We would like to thank all of those to donated to our team ride. As stated on the Tour de Guelph website, “this year’s proceeds to the Hospital will directly support its $34-million Together, We Care fundraising campaign, helping the Hospital invest in new patient care equipment and technology by helping to fund a new MRI machine!”

We couldn’t have asked for better weather for the big day! Our route took us along the Eramosa River, starting from the covered bridge, to Victoria Road South, through The Ward, to the River Run Centre, and finally back to the covered bridge. You can watch the video on our Facebook page: Our Tour de Guelph Community Ride.

We are thrilled to support this great event, both through our team ride and as the presenting sponsor for the online photo album, and we’re already looking forward to our 2022 Tour de Guelph Community Ride. For more information, visit tourdeguelph.ca.
