Remember high school? (I know, that likely feels like a long time ago if the words exit and strategy are on your mind!) Remember when you had to study Shakespeare, or the collected works of Carl Jung (ok, that might have been college)?

Either way – would we read all that stuff? Heck NO! We’d get ourselves off to the mall and pick up a copy of Coles Notes on the subject matter at hand.

Somehow, at that age, we were almost hard-wired to take the easy road. So, what happened?

How come, the older we got, the more entrenched in our careers and business ventures, the more difficult it all seemed to get? The more we almost REVELED in that chaos and those 80-hour work weeks.

Feels good doesn’t it?

It proved something to us.

That we were killers.

That we could do it all!

That we could have every single ball in the air and still land each one while hitting or exceeding year-end goals.

And not die.

Or fall prey to the ravages of stress and anxiety.

Nope, not me. I’d much rather calm and strategic than badges of overwhelm honour.

Which is why I’ve spent the last few years seeking out ease.

We all thirst to leave a legacy. You’re no different. I’m no different.

We wear our scars with pride because it’s almost expected of us/

“So, I was always the dumb kid in high school. I was the kid in high school who got the 62% grade point or 62% average. Really struggled with the normal school system. I was always the kid who had to find the cheat sheets because I had too much going on. I was running a fraternity and running a business, and I was on the university ski team and partying like crazy. I had too many things happening that I couldn’t spend time studying and learning it all, so I had to figure out the short cuts. And then in business, I had to figure out the short cuts too because I was trying to run a really fast-growing company. I was 28 years old, and I hired 220 people in four months from out of the gate. That’s not a normal thing to be able to do that, so what I wanted to do is then give those systems to others because I felt bad that they were trying so hard when they didn’t have to.”

On the heels of his success, he knew he wanted to give these cheat-sheets to entrepreneurs. Not the already super-rich, but the ones who are aiming to hit that mark. The businessmen and women who – if they would JUST take the shortcut, would be so much further ahead.

As Cameron points out, and I’ve learned to see it, most entrepreneurs never take those short cuts.

We seem to think that business HAS TO BE complicated.
