A fresh week of a fresh decade. When everyone starts shifting back into routines. I hope you’re keeping the ones that worked and adopting new ones that will help make your New Year’s Resolutions STICK.
This time last year I set an ambitious promise, a Big Hairy Audacious Goal (“BHAG”), a whopper of a New Year’s Resolution.
Then I announced it publicly, here in my blog and on my podcast I’m a Millionaire! So Now What?
Because I know that when you share a resolution, commitment or decision publicly, you build in two important levels of ACCOUNTABILITY.
The first level is to yourself: by stating your goal out loud – and yes, out loud makes a difference - you exercise your ‘Believe It’ muscle. Trust me… hearing yourself declare something (over and over and over if need be) reinforces your commitment, keeps you focused and motivated, and reminds you, helps convince you even, that you can do it.
The second level of accountability is to others. When you share your goal publicly, your community is more likely to support you, join in to make it a reality, and enjoy the success with you!
So it’s one year later; one year along the path to my own, publicly-declared BHAG and promise:
To double the number of self-made millionaires by 2030.
To measure my progress, I’m turning to research provided by Credit Suisse. They’ve put out a Global Wealth Report each year since 2010.
2018 1,293,000 Millionaires in Canada
2019 1,322,000 Millionaires in Canada
That’s an increase of 29,000, or just over 2%, in one year…. I’m looking at the next 10. So it looks like I’ve got my work cut out for me!
Good thing I have a dream plus a plan.
