Visualizing Someday

It can be challenging to imagine your life in the future. So many different possibilities, unknowns – trying to form a clear picture is hard, even daunting.

While the Big Picture may be unclear, little things are easier to dream up. Most of us have a bucket list of some sort. Things we want to see. Places we’d like to go. Experiences we’d love to share with friends and family.

Rather than sit back and dream, what if you took one step each day towards making your dreams a reality? Not sure how to begin? Let’s try this: Start with the end in mind and reverse engineer it.

Let’s start with a ‘Someday’ Goal.

Start with a clear vision of what you’d like to do/have/achieve some day. Sit quietly and think about your vision. Close your eyes. When would you like this goal achieved - 10 years? Retirement? What does it look like? What does it smell like? What does it sound like? Draw a picture, cut out a picture, write a description. And, get clear on WHY you want this. Knowing your Why will be critical to staying on track. I explain that here.

Now, imagine yourself in Five Years.

Where do you need to be, what do you need to have done, for that Someday Goal to be reachable? What’s the one thing that you need to do in the next five years that will put you on the path to your Someday Goal? That’s your new Five-Year Goal.

NEXT YEAR

What is one thing that you need to do within the next year to make progress towards that Five-Year goal?

NEXT MONTH

What is one thing you need to do each month or next month to make progress to your Next Year goal?

NEXT WEEK

What is one thing you need to do each week or next week to achieve your This Month goal?

TODAY

What is one thing you need to do daily or TODAY to make sure you reach your This Week goal? What ONE small thing can you do tomorrow?

RIGHT NOW

What is one inspiring action that you can take RIGHT NOW that checks off your TODAY goal? Do that one thing, and you have started your journey – actively begun working on your Someday Goal. Not your Someday ‘dream’ but your Someday Goal. Every single day believe it. Imagine it. Take action towards it.

Then, like the shampoo bottle says: Rinse and Repeat!
