Senior Portfolio Manager & Wealth Advisor and Practice Lead
After running a successful hedge fund, Michael realized that investment returns alone did not address what clients needed most: a true financial quarterback to grow not only their portfolios but their personal net worth and the value of their businesses. “My goal is to grow not just your investments, but your wealth, your enterprise, and your impact – while ensuring you have coordinated, expert guidance across every aspect of your financial life.”
This vision has guided Michael since founding Michael Yhip Wealth Partners, now an award-winning, enterprise-level advisory practice within RBC Dominion Securities. His team is trusted to advise some of the most significant and complex client relationships in the firm, reflecting not only his record of performance but also a multi-decade deep relationship across the entire RBC organization, from investment banking and private banking to commercial banking, insurance, and trust.
Michael began his career as an investment banker in the late 1990s, advising corporations and governments on debt and financing strategies. He went on to build RBC’s national interest rate risk management business for commercial clients, helping public and private companies manage financial risks more effectively. In 2006, he launched his own hedge fund, earning recognition for his innovative thinking and value-creation mindset. His performance during 2008–2011, one of the most difficult economic periods in modern history, earned him the Morningstar Investment Award for Best Multi-Strategy Hedge Fund.
Grounded in deep expertise, continuous learning, and practical experience, Michael’s approach focuses on understanding each client’s journey, building a clear wealth strategy, and managing it at every stage. He serves as a trusted advisor to entrepreneurs, family offices, and business owners seeking structure, insight, and alignment across their financial affairs.
Michael holds a bachelor of commerce (honours) in finance and economics from the University of Toronto and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). He is also an early Canadian graduate of Singularity University’s executive program, which explores how exponential technologies will reshape global business and leadership.
Beyond his professional life, Michael is deeply committed to community and sport. He serves on the Board of Directors of the International Supporter Group (ISG), a Canadian not-for-profit that supports the Guyana Women’s National Football Team (Lady Jags) in their efforts to climb the global FIFA rankings and expand opportunities for players representing Guyana worldwide.
Michael and his family are also minority owners in Toronto AFC, part of the Northern Super League, Canada’s first professional women’s soccer league, reflecting their belief in advancing women’s sport and building pathways for future generations.
Michael and his wife, Meagan, live in Toronto with their two daughters, Ella and Isadora (Izzy). Outside of work, he enjoys Brazilian jiu-jitsu, travel, reading, and cheering on the Toronto Raptors. He is also a supporter of the Michael Garron Hospital Foundation, the West Park Healthcare Centre Foundation, and other charitable initiatives. His current passion project involves bringing the story of Canadian soccer legend Christine Sinclair to life through an animated feature film, celebrating her record-breaking achievements and lasting influence on the sport.
