How it works

Your Portfolio Manager will handle all the details on an ongoing basis, working within the specific guidelines established in your Investment Policy Statement. Your Portfolio Manager is always accountable to these guidelines, which are reviewed at least annually and updated in consultation with you. In addition, an extensive team of professionals supports your Portfolio Manager with:

  • Investment strategy and research
  • Recommendations on portfolio composition
  • Reviews of your account

For our clients, we invest in a combination of individual securities, mutual funds, exchange traded funds, and alternative investments. Our security selection process follows a rigorous process, and is reviewed bi-weekly. We liaison with our Portfolio Advisory Group, a dedicated team of analyst, who coordinate research with RBC Capital Markets. RBC Capital Markets provide up to date research for specific companies, sectors and the economy. From the large breadth of research and team approach, we create customized investment models that we believe will provide stable, long term investment returns.

The Fahr Group Investment Framework

  1. Create your Investment Policy Statement

Our first step in developing your portfolio is to understand your investment needs – the return you need to earn on your investments, your income requirements, comfort with market risk, time to invest and other preferences. Based on your needs, we’ll draft your Investment Policy Statement, the document that guides us in making day-to-day investment decisions for your portfolio.

  1. Construct your portfolio

Based on the discovery process and Investment Policy Statement framework, we will select an appropriate combination of investments for your portfolio. How your portfolio is allocated among the four main asset classes – cash, fixed income, equities and alternatives– is the single most important factor in determining the balance between managing risk and providing higher returns.

  1. Manage your portfolio

Market and economic conditions change. As needed, we make appropriate adjustments to your portfolio to respond to and anticipate the changing market and economic landscape. We may make tactical decisions to our customized investment models, and as a result rebalance your portfolio to adjust to these changes. To make changes we liaison with RBC Investment Strategy Committee, RBC Capital Markets, Portfolio Advisory Group, Fixed Income Advisory Group, and Wealth Management Services.

  1. Monitor your portfolio

Your portfolio is regularly monitored by The Fahr Group based on your investment framework we customized for you. In addition, our Portfolio Implementation and Risk Monitoring Group to help ensure your portfolio is managed according to the terms of your Investment Policy Statement.

  1. Adjust your investment strategy

We will also meet with you on a regular basis to review your portfolio and get an update on your personal and financial situation. Your goals are likely to change over time, and both your Investment Policy Statement and portfolio will need to reflect these changes.

  1. Keep you informed on your progress

You will receive a regular account statement that details the activity in your portfolio and provides the current market value of all your positions. In addition, you can receive a quarterly rate-of-return calculation. You also have access to your custody statement and timely market information through our secure private client website, DS Online.
