The World Health Organization has declared 2021-2030 the “Decade of Healthy Ageing”, recognizing that populations are ageing at a faster pace than in the past, causing significant impact on almost all aspects of society. Many Canadians find themselves thinking not only about their own ‘golden years’, but also those of their ageing family members. Many will find themselves in the role of caregiver for their spouse, parent, grandparent or adult dependent child.
In the video below, Audrey Miller, MSW, RSW, CCLCP, RBC’s subject matter expert and our latest healthy ageing partner, educates us more about how we’re supporting our older clients and their caregiving families. Audrey discusses ageing at home, the emotional and financial cost of caring, accessing public healthcare resources, dementia and capacity, exploring alternate accommodations and getting important paperwork completed.
