Associate Portfolio Manager
Ben’s keen interest in the function of wealth can only be described as innate, a trait that has long been complemented by a strong work ethic. This dual force is what brought Ben to buy his first bond as a youth, and would propel him to pursue investments as both a hobby and a vocation.
Having earned a bachelor degree from the University of Western Ontario, Ben gained experience at another major financial institution managing wealth before taking a role as a private equity investor at an independent firm. “There, I was exposed to early stage investing and got to see a different side of finance,” he says. In 2014, Ben returned to the world of wealth, bringing his specialized and seasoned perspective to RBC Dominion Securities and Murray Private Wealth.
As associate portfolio manager, Ben is the primary relationship manager for some of our clients. Leaning on nearly two decades of industry experience, he carries out and oversees their individualized financial approach. Ben leads regular discussions to review, assess, and adjust clients’ financial pictures on an ongoing basis. He is also responsible for portfolio modelling and investment research. Ben follows the markets every day and performs analyses. Proficient in dissecting and interpreting companies – even when little information is available – he seeks out undervalued stocks and vets them with acute scrutiny. “I like to think and rethink that of which I am convinced,” says Ben.
While a lot of Ben’s know-how comes from experience, including working through several market cycles, he has multiple industry credentials, including the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, as well as securities and options licenses.
Ben likes to keep his mind sharp outside of work, too. He advises on the proceedings of two organizations as a board member. He is a passionate investor, in both public and private equities.
Ben was raised in West Vancouver and currently lives with his wife, daughter, and son in North Vancouver. They are actively involved in the community and several charitable organizations. Ben enjoys reading, golfing, skiing, and travelling.
