Our team celebrates the season with a French-Canadian tradition, and activities you can do in Ottawa during the holidays.

Holiday Decorations

MPCD Wealth Management kicked off the holiday season with a Tourtière Cook-Off between Clementine, Patricia and Tracey. Tourtière is a traditional French-Canadian meat pie dish, usually containing minced pork or beef, potatoes and a blend of savory spices. Our team and a few colleagues in the office had the pleasure of taste-testing and judging each tourtière. Each dish was delicious and had its own unique twist on flavour and texture. It was a nail biting race for the win, and after votes were tallied, Patricia’s tourtière was victorious! A French-Canadian herself, Patricia showcased her family recipe which has been handed down through the generations. Baking tourtière is an annual tradition enjoyed by her family at this time of year.

As the holidays draw closer, you can participate in numerous activities and events across Ottawa to celebrate the season and help get you into the holiday spirit. If you are looking for something to do this year, here are a couple of ideas:

  • Magic of Lights: Nov. 16, 2018 – Jan. 5, 2019. Head west of downtown core to Wesley Clover Parks to experience a stunning drive-through holiday light display, with nearly one million LED lights spread across a 2km drive and 100-foot tunnel.
  • Magical winter lightscapes show: Dec. 5, 2018 – Jan. 7, 2019. A lightscapes multimedia show is projected onto Parliament Hill’s Centre Block nightly in a loop from 5:30pm – 11:00pm.
  • Trees of Hope for CHEO: Nov. 26, 2018 – Jan 4, 2019. Visit the historic Fairmont Château Laurier to see the halls sparkle with beautifully decorated trees. Opt to enjoy Afternoon Tea or a meal at the hotel followed by a stroll through the lovely trees. This annual event is in support of the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.
  • Holiday Programming at the National Arts Centre (NAC) through Nov. – Dec. 2018. The NAC holds a range of holiday-inspired entertainment, such as The Hockey Sweater: A Musical (Dec 5-23). Check out the full calendar for this season on their official website.

You can visit holiday craft markets, enjoy live music and different outdoor activities such as the Sens Rink of Dreams, and experience a diverse culinary scene of traditional and modern fare in all corners of Ottawa. Ottawa is truly a beautiful city to spend the holidays!
