Spending the first 7 years of her life in Croatia and Germany, she moved to Canada with her family when she was 8 years old. After completing her Economics Degree at the University of Manitoba, she was immediately drawn to the investment industry. Through numerous courses with the Canadian Securities Institute, she has obtained designations such as the PFP (Professional Financial Planner), the FMA (Financial Management Advisor), the CIM (Canadian Investment Manager) and the FCSI (Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute). The FCSI is the highest honor and most senior credential in Canadian Financial Services. The institute reserves the FCSI for investment professionals who meet the highest standards of advanced education, ethical conduct and peer endorsement.
MJ has been insurance licensed with the Insurance Council of Manitoba for over 30 years, enabling her to advise clients on tax-deferral, risk management and complex estate planning strategies. As her business has evolved to include Will and Estate Planning as part of a holistic approach to wealth management, she obtained her TEP (Trust and Estate Practitioner) designation through STEP Canada. STEP (The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) is the leading international organization for Trust and Estate professionals including lawyers, accountants and trust professionals. In addition to offering custom-tailored Investment and Wealth Management solutions for her clients, she focuses on Will and Estate Planning and Financial Planning as part of the Discovery and Annual Review process.
Philanthropy has been a big part of MJ’s life for many years. She regularly volunteers with the Boy’s and Girl’s Club of Winnipeg, The Royal Winnipeg Ballet and Winnipeg Harvest. She has been a member of The Lion of Judah through the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg as well as a member of the Balmoral Hall Parent Association for 5 years, serving many Committees within the school.
MJ is well known in the Manitoba and Ontario horse community and has sponsored equestrian organizations such as Dressage Winnipeg, the Manitoba Hunter Jumper Association, competitive junior rider, Jackson Vandale, and International Grand Prix rider, Ariana Chia. She has also served a term as a Board Member of the Manitoba Hunter Jumper Association.
A lifelong horse lover, she spends her free time riding and training her sport horse, RSH Mystique and Dante's Admiration.
MJ is married to Jeffrey Thoroski, also an Investment Advisor at RBC Dominion Securities and her daughter, Isabella, works with her team part-time.
