Giving Back and Community Involvement
Community involvement is the power to bring positive, measurable change to both the community in which you operate and to your business. Community involvement examples include in-kind and financial donations, employee volunteer days, enduring non-profit partnerships, and more. (definition from Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship).
I am fortunate to be at the stage of life which affords me time to give back to my community.
I grew up in a family where we all gave back to our local community and I am proud to say those values stayed with me and my family and I am seeing this in my young adult children now.
I volunteer with Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre on their annual Gala fundraising event, as well, I participate in various events with Hearth Place to help them raise funds.
Through my office, I have volunteered with Habitat For Humanity, Simcoe Hall Settlement House, Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority, United Way; I have participated in RBC charity runs – Running for Home and the Race for the Kids.
I am involved in some networking groups in the Durham Region – I am a member of the Whitby Chamber of Commerce, 100 Women Who Care – Ajax, Pickering, Whitby division, Durham Business Women as well, I attend Clarington Chamber of Commerce events and Spark Centre Events.
It is exciting to see the work all these groups are doing and the progress going on in Durham Region.
RBC invests in our communities too – we invest in Youth through programs such as Career Launch and Youth Mental Well-Being Project; Artists; the Environment; Athletes (RBC Olympians, Golfers); Sustainable Finance; and Diversity and Inclusion.
In 2018, RBC contributed over $100.7 million globally to more than 6700 community and charitable organizations, and provided numerous programs to help employees become better citizens.
What would do without the Corporate Charitable giving in Canada?
