I came across a great initiative being offered by RBC to its clients. Our last seminar talked about the importance of having a will, and estate planning discussion with our team, if and when warranted. Having gone through the process of attending to the Estates of clients over the years, we know firsthand how important this is.

A few facts: 50% of Canadians say they don’t have a will. In the 18-34 bracket, it's estimated this is close to 90%. I’ve got a no-brainer for almost everyone, especially my client’s adult children. For approximately $100, RBC has partnered with Epilogue Wills. For those with uncomplicated estate planning needs, Epilogue offers a simple and affordable way to make a Will and important estate planning documents online—in just 20 minutes. I actually just ran though it on a test basis, and it's fantastic.

Its easy, this is how it works:

  1. Answer questions about you and your wishes
  2. Review the custom will, auto-generated by Epilogue
  3. Epilogue provides you with signing instructions to make it legally binding.

Many of you have already gone through more comprehensive Will and Estate planning with our team, and will continue to do so over the years where appropriate. Obviously, creating a Will online isn’t the right fit for everyone, especially for those families with more complex needs. However, we encourage you to take a look at this Epilogue offering.

It’s Fathers Day this weekend and my oldest son James just graduated from grade 8. My dear father-in-law observed with good intentions that I looked “old” standing beside my now High-School aged son! Father’s Day of course is a celebration of our father figures, as well as fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society. I’m grateful for all the influences I’ve had in my life and wish everyone well as we celebrate this with those who continue to positively impact us, and those whose lessons we can hold onto and remember.

I will be traveling for the next two weeks, partly for an RBC training retreat, as well as going to my old stomping grounds, London, with my now high-school son (but reachable always). Avril will be writing next week's post, and I predict she might have a prediction on the Royal Ascot: both racing and high fashion.

Have a great weekend!
