I trust everyone is geared up for 2023, and we are back with our weekly thoughts and commentary.

 

Over the holiday’s I was fortunate enough to download the trial version of what for me as an investment professional, portends to the future of investing. I’m quite confident in stating that artificial intelligence is going to change the investment process, risk assessment and decision making that occurs for anyone that is involved in the investment world. While I don’t have a crystal ball (although based on some of the freaky stuff this AI Bot provides, it appears they may!), Artificial intelligence is going to be incorporated into the investment process at RBC DS within the next 5 years, and we will all be better for it.

While artificial intelligence will no doubt improve the investment process and decisions, it isn’t going to be able to replicate the planning, estate preparation, wills and everything else that goes into the managing of anyone’s overall financial affairs. The last 12 months on a professional and personal perspective has certainly made me aware of this. We’ve had a few clients pass away, and/or lose capacity in the last year, and I’ve worked with client’s external lawyers and accountants, as well as relying on the advice and services within our firm in these situations.

 

Over the last few years, we’ve had a great series of speakers present to you, talking specifically about different aspects of the market: real estate, what to do in fixed income, Oil outlook, etc.

 

We are working on a series of what I’d characterize as the other part of financial management, that some of you may or may not be aware of: Estates, Will evaluations, when it makes sense to set up a Trust, being the executor for an estate, among others. So stay tuned for the next invite to our on-going series of presentations.
