History of McDonald’s

The only thing I like more than a Big Mac from McDonald’s is their dividends! McDonald’s paid its first dividend in 1976. It has raised its dividend for more than 40 consecutive years. With the new quarterly dividend of $1.29 per share, McDonald’s is now paying their shareholders $5.16 annually.

“Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more you sweat, the luckier you get.” – Ray Kroc

The history of McDonald’s and its world renowned status has always fascinated me. The company officially began in 1955 as we know it today however, it all started in 1954 when Ray Kroc, the distributor of the milkshake maker called the Multimixer, came across the McDonald’s hamburger stand in California owned by Dick and Mac McDonald. The brothers brought meaning to the term fast food by innovatively and efficiently serving hamburgers in an assembly like fashion and selling them at the low price of 15 cents. Kroc believed that this restaurant could succeed by opening several restaurants across the nation that offered the exact same customer experience no matter which location you walked into.

McDonald’s went public in 1965 with their initial public offering. A few years later, the franchise came to Canada in 1967 and opened their first Canadian location in Richmond, British Columbia. To date, there are more than 39,000 locations in over 100 countries such as Russia, Germany, Philippines, Brazil, China, etc.

“The two most important requirements for major success are: first, being in the right place at the right time, and second, doing something about it.” – Ray Kroc

McDonald’s continues to grow and has continued to adapt as society evolves which has been made more apparent throughout this pandemic. This successful company has continued to increase their cash flow and reward their shareholders. Go treat yourself to a McFlurry to celebrate their recent dividend increase!
