Derrick graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Science in 1987 and then went on to earn his Masters in Business Administration majoring in Finance from McGill in 1990. After completing his M.B.A., Derrick joined a Fortune 100 pharmaceutical company and worked for over 5 years in Sales, Marketing and Corporate Affairs. In 1996, Derrick began his career in the investment industry by joining RBC Dominion Securities Inc. as an Investment Advisor on the 39th floor of Royal Bank Plaza before moving to the Oakville branch in 2003.
Derrick believes in continuous professional development. Since beginning his career at RBC Dominion Securities, he has earned his Professional Financial Planning Course, Canadian Investment Manager (CIM) and Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI) designations. And since 2012, Derrick has been an accredited Portfolio Manager, offering discretionary management services to clients. As a Private Investment Manager, clients can entrust their portfolio investment decisions to Derrick. Only a select group of highly qualified advisors are able to offer discretionary management services that conform to the highest standards of ethics and professionalism.
Derrick believes in a “goals-based” approach to financial planning and investment management. Client education is also at the core of his approach and strongly believes that informed clients make for long-lasting partnerships. Derrick has appeared live on national television with CTV NewsNet as a guest market commentator on several occasions.
Derrick and his wife Anne live in Oakville with their 2 sons, 2 cats and 1 dog.
