Pinch me.

This really happened!

It has been just about two months since the closing of our new house - now HOME.

After close to 23 years in our “double wide” (inside joke with David - our eldest son who compared our home to those of his hockey friends… once upon a time - ask me about it sometime). Close to 23 years in Munster Hamlet - longer than either of my childhood homes on Dwyer Hill Rd (West Carleton - now Ottawa).

Back in the day, we moved in with a couple of half ton trucks and a trailer. This time, we moved with a BIG block truck in two trips plus many many car loads.

Whoozers. Did we accumulate… things and MEMORIES.

Munster is where our boys grew up to be young men. Freely riding their bicycles about the community. Freezing their toes at the ODR. Mingling at the ball Diamond. Swimming in the backyard pool. Shouting … the internet is LAGGING - again - while playing Call of Duty or Forza. This was the house we called HOME … with the constant smell of a locker room in the basement and hockey bag marks along the wall.

I left behind the perpetual bruise on my left thigh from banging it against the corner of my bed. That bedroom set which was purchased with the monies gifted to us at our Wedding, 24 years ago to the date of our closing (August 16, 2021). It was a freakin’ hot humid August 16th, similar to the week of our move.

Back to my rural roots with six acres and the country side.

We’ve considered and been in negotiation for multiple moves over the last number of years… they never quite felt right, something always fell through - until now. In the meantime, we renovated. We replaced all our windows, revamped the basement, redesigned our kitchen, and added an ensuite shower.

We have kept our place in Munster. We found a wonderful couple, family friends. They are ‘borrowing’ it as their home, taking care of it for a while, until perhaps our boys are ready to be truly independent. Then, we can share it with them as part of our legacy.

It is a lovely white body bungalow that has been well lived in… oh, if the walls could talk. LOL

Here’s to our next adventure and another 20 + years.

With much gratitude, we celebrate this Thanksgiving.
