March Round Up

Wow, March is pretty much over and we’re almost into Spring. 2021 is speeding by like an F1 car and while I’m all for adrenaline, it does kind of feel like we’re back at the starting lap sometimes. But jokes aside, for those of us who missed all those wonderful insights shared in “I’m a Millionaire! So Now What?” the theme for March was leadership in tough times.

I chatted to the CEO of Ottawa-based GBatteries, Kostya Khomutov, who aims to accelerate the mass adoption of electric vehicles through fast charging batteries (and boy do we need some hope for future generations more than ever before!).

I paid homage to the 1-year anniversary of Covid-19 lockdown and reflected on whether we can control or create our own luck. I asked you to consider if you’re unintentionally choosing the lonely leadership path and whether you’re asking the right questions for your company.

Here’s a quick roundup for March.

  • Saving the Planet: One Lithium Battery at a Time. What motivates you to succeed? Get inspired by Kostya Khomutov, CEO of GBatteries. A man with a vision to transform the way batteries are charged and help build a sustainable future – one with less greenhouse gases.

  • A Homage to the 1-year Anniversary of Covid-19 Lockdown. With Covid-19, I realized the only thing we can control is our thoughts, our thoughts beget our beliefs, which turn into our actions. And our actions are, in turn, what creates our results. So, are you working towards controlling your thoughts and has this impacted your actions as a leader? Step back, take inventory and think about what you can control on this episode.

  • Return on Luck. Many of our guests have spoken about how lucky they’ve been, or their lucky breaks. If you see yourself as lucky and say that to yourself regularly do you think this can impact your actions, and results? What if we reframe luck and think about it as a return on equity or investment? A return on luck. Because luck itself is not a strategy. How you face that luck and what you do with it, is strategy.

  • Self-reliance and the Lonely Leader. More than a year with Covid-19 has been lonely and isolating for most of us. As a CEO, founder or business owner, it can be an even lonelier, especially if we’re striving so hard to be self-reliant that we’re unconsciously choosing to walk the solitary path. With an excerpt from Heather Pickering, you’ll discover six reasons why you might be feeling like a lonely leader.

  • Asking the Right Questions. If someone makes a mistake, do you quickly point the finger of blame❓❓❓ According to Cameron Herold, true leadership is all about asking the right questions. You need to find out what systems are missing that allow a problem to happen. Discover how a missing B in a Star ucks sign led to better leadership in this podcast.

There’s a lot of incredible leadership advice in these episodes. They’re short and quick to digest, and after you’ve listened to them, you won’t feel like you’re back where you started anymore.

I’ll leave you with a rather apt quote for the lonely leader in troubled times, from TV personality, singer and businessman Jimmy Dean: “I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.”
