At its core, every company has three inputs. Our people. Our time. And our money.
- We only have a certain number of people, and what ROI are we going to get off of them?
- Time is that finite resource of just every day is just kind of clicking by - it’s expiring inventory.
- And then we only have our money that we’re putting in. We can put it into investing or marketing or overhead or systems.
Look, there’s nothing wrong with wealth – or aspiring to HAVE wealth. In fact, through my work I try to normalise the idea that having wealth and being wealthy and creating wealth through your business is a good thing. Even better if you have a clearly mapped out exit strategy in place that will reward you for all that you’ve sacrificed. So no, you’re not greedy - you’re working hard – you’ve BEEN working hard, often for many years - and you want it to count! Absolutely nothing wrong with that concept.
So, let’s say you’re dreaming of said exit strategy. There are some key lessons that can be brought in to help a company be in its best possible place, so that a founder can achieve a really strong cash-rich exit in, say, 10 years.
Of course, you might want that sooner.
Five years?
Or you may know you want an exit strategy eventually – but you also know you’ve got some work to do before you’ll get there and feel secure about it.
