Giving in Gratitude This Year

Every year since 2011, Carole and I have hosted an appreciation event to thank our clients, friends, and business associates for their support throughout the year. Our Holiday Inspired Open House features fine food and beverages, live music, and a photographer for fun photo opportunities. Guests are asked to bring in an item for Toy Mountain.

We like to be the first holiday party out of the gates, so we organize the event to fall just after Remembrance Day (respectfully) and just before the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. This year, we held the event at Urban Element for the third time; and enjoyed live music by Peter Voith (who was at Holy Trinity High school in Kanata with my brother!); he is part of the Jackson Miles Band.

For me, this is a season of gift giving and gratitude.

As you may have learned during my summer blog series about Sacred Money Archetypes, I am a “Maverick” – the Rebel with a Cause. Experiences, quality time and acts of service rank much higher for me in importance and desirability than things. So in addition to our annual Holiday-Inspired Open House, I usually make a donation to a local charity on behalf of my clients – an extra gift from them to those who need it most. While I may be projecting my values onto my clients, I figure most of us probably have everything we need, so why not share the wealth?

This year I will – I mean “we” will – be giving to the Ottawa Snowsuit Fund. In the past, we’ve supported the Sharing and Caring Exchange (aka the Ottawa Christmas Exchange) and The Thoughtful Gift Campaign (which assisted women at local shelters).

In the spirit of true gratitude, Carole and I thank you for your business. We appreciate your trust and wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season, however it is that you celebrate.
