I am humble but not modest

Celebrating recognition as Distinctive Women Professional of the Year 2017

In my blog post, “The power of personal influence”, I share that my father is the greatest influence in my life. One of the things he has taught me both in words and in actions is to be humble. (According to Collins Dictionary online – A humble person is not proud and does not believe that they are better than other people). In my earlier years, I made the mistake of being modest – a term that is often confused with humble. To be a modest person is to be someone who does not talk much about their abilities or achievements.

This may seem honorable on the surface, but in actuality it is ultimately a disadvantage both in one’s personal and business life. A healthy dose of confidence and personal pride in one’s achievements is beneficial. Feeling good about yourself and your accomplishments is important.

I’m glad that over time I recognized the difference between these two terms. And in recognition of this revelation, I want to celebrate with you my recent award as Distinctive Women Professional of the Year 2017. This is a repeat recognition as I also received the same award in 2014. I was honoured to accept this award at the  IGNITE IV conference, hosted by Distinctive Women .

Thank you and much gratitude to those who supported my nomination(s).

I am curious. What’s holding you back from celebrating your achievements and sharing your personal and business successes with the world?
