Raise your hand if you’ve been personally affected by a mental health illness. Has it touched a close friend, relative, spouse or coworker? Statistics report that one in five Canadians, more than 7 million people, will experience mental illness in their lifetime.
Building off the success of the previous two tournaments with a combined two-year fundraising total of $9,600 – we set an ambitious goal to raise $10,000 this year for the Women for Mental Health program at The Royal Ottawa. By introducing a new “donate” button to the Fore-Play for Charity website, expanding the tournament to accommodate additional golfers, and incorporating more fundraising activities, we were set on reaching our goal!

This year the tournament was sponsored by Bell Media, which gave co-hosts Colleen and Shelley the opportunity to be on CTV Morning Live http://ottawa.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=1205898 and CTV News at Noon to further promote the tournament.

The 3rd Annual Fore-Play for Charity golf tournament took place on a sunny September 12th at the Rivermead Golf Club in Gatineau. Co-hosted by friends and colleagues Colleen O’Connell-Campbell of RBC Wealth Management and Shelley True of TRUEdotDESIGN, this year’s tournament was another sell-out (in fact over sold by two foursomes)!

The ladies arrived to lunch and network on the patio before spending a day on the green connecting with like-minded entrepreneurs and businesswomen. After golf, volunteer hairstylists from The Loft, and make-up artists from Leslie-Anne Barrett Beauty Bartender, helped everyone get fancy before the gala dinner. Complete with networking activities, heart-felt speeches and many “fun”-raising initiatives, this year Colleen and Shelley and their organization committee raised $10,000 for mental health research!

To all the golfers, sponsors, volunteers and staff – THANK YOU for the vital part you played in making this important fundraiser the success that it was!
