Since Canada represents only a small percentage of the world's economy, many Canadians invest in the U.S. stock market to diversify their portfolios. As a result, it's important to have a general understanding of the tax issues associated with such investments. This article discusses the Canadian and U.S. tax implications for Canadian resident individuals who are non-U.S. persons earning income and gains from common types of publicly traded U.S. securities.
