Bespoke Portfolios
Discretionary Platform
Busy professionals and executives, travelers, retirees and snowbirds often find that the greater their wealth, the more time they require every day to manage it. If you are responsible for investing for a not-for-profit organization, foundation or endowment, you may also find that the expertise required to make investment decisions according to specific guidelines can be time-consuming and complex.
Whether you need your time to focus on your career, manage the needs of an organization, pursue an active retirement, or travel outside of the country for long periods, Private Investment Management – RBC Dominion Securities’ premium level of discretionary wealth management - may be the right solution for you.
How it works
By delegating your investment management to an accredited portfolio manager, who works within your specific investment preferences, constraints and risk tolerance, you can free yourself from and still be confident that your investment plan is on track. Because your approval is not required for every single transaction, we can make time-sensitive decisions quickly, helping you get closer to your investment objectives and freeing you from the burden of daily portfolio decisions.
You can be confident in the management of your wealth, because only experienced investment advisors who have met strict industry-wide qualifications for education, assets under management and investment experience are licensed to provide this level of discretionary investment management.
Investment policy statement captures your needs
The Investment Policy Statement is your specific mandate that details all your objectives, goals and constraints in managing your portfolio. You can think of it as the charter or master plan that we create to manage your portfolio. It details your income requirements, comfort with market risk, time to invest and other preferences. Taking all these factors into account, we recommend an appropriate asset-allocation model for your portfolio. How your portfolio is allocated among the three main asset classes – cash, fixed income and equities – is the single most important factor in determining the balance factor between managing risk and providing higher returns.
At Ketchen Asset Management of RBC Dominion Securities, our careful process involving robust investment management guidelines, regular review, and formal oversight, helps to ensure that your portfolio is managed to high standards of ethics and professionalism.
Non-Discretionary Platform
The all-inclusive Advisor Program is a convenient way to access the investment and wealth management services you need, with complete transparency about the fees you are paying. With the Advisor Program, you get personalized advice from a dedicated advisor, top-ranked capital markets research and the ability to make the trades you need – all for a single, predictable fee. The Advisor Program is suitable for those investors who want to be involved in the day-to-day decision making process when building and shaping a portfolio.
Professional advice
First, we work together with you to understand your investment goals and create a personalized investment strategy. Then, we establish your customized service level agreement outlining the number of investment trades you can make, the other services we will provide, and the fee for service. On an ongoing basis, we provide you with:
- New investment ideas
- Our proven portfolio strategy
- Portfolio monitoring and rebalancing
- Regular portfolio reviews
- Detailed account reports
- Online account access and research
Transparency and flexibility
The Advisor Program is different from traditional investment accounts, which charge commissions on each trade you make. Instead, with the Advisor Program, you pay a fixed fee based on a percentage of the assets in your portfolio. You receive a wide range of services, including the ability to make a certain number of trades per account. This gives you the flexibility to make investment changes without considering the cost of individual transactions. For example, you can:
- Sell a stock to lock in a profit
- Switch to a new investment idea that better suits your needs
- Rebalance your portfolio to reduce risk
What’s more, with the fee-based approach, you gain the confidence of knowing that potential commissions never factor into the investment recommendations you receive. Fees are potentially tax-deductible (consult with your tax advisor to determine eligibility based on your individual tax situation).
