When I wake up in the morning, I think that I've died and gone to heaven, and I can't believe that I get to do this. I don't call what I do work, because what I do is not work. It's helping families and seeing them enjoy what we've done together.
I was a high school teacher.
I have a degree in psychology.
I studied economics and mathematics.
I have a BA in Finance. I'm also a Chartered Financial Analyst, and I also hold an MBA in European management.
My background is in quantitative methods and economics. The thing that I like the most is the fact that I run my own business. I'm very independent, and I think that's probably the number one selling feature to the industry in general.
The thing I love about our job most now in hindsight is that you stay on top of everything. I mean, whatever's going on in the world, whatever new health care or drug or technology, because we manage people's money, it kind of keeps you abreast of everything that's going on in the world.
Every day the issues, or the concerns, or the challenges are different. And that's what I like is the constant changing challenge. I've always wanted to help people, and now I get to do it in the most meaningful way, and it brings me back to work every single day.
I love my clients. I think it's great that we are in a business where we're able to support people and help them in areas where for them, money is potentially a scary thing or a thing that they don't understand or are very disorganized about, whereas for me, it's something that I can bring a lot of structure and organization to for them and hopefully make them happier as a result of that.
When I graduated, in my mind I had, no doubt I wanted to work for RBC. I said, they were the biggest, and I think that's a key factor, which is, if you're the strongest in the industry, you can reinvest and have the capabilities to grow the business and offer more service.
I've had wonderful mentors, men and women, who have supported my career path and ended up progressing to the level now in management and as a vice president. So I'd say for anyone looking for those types of opportunities, RBC is an absolutely phenomenal firm.
All along, they've been incredibly supportive. They've always been cutting edge in terms of providing us with the tools, the software, the people. We have the most incredible people.
I love it. I'm passionate about it. I'm passionate about the firm. I feel like the luckiest person in world.
