Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter
Our support goes toward providing resources for people who need physical protection and emotional support. The team of counsellors in the Emergency Shelter provide care to families experiencing family violence and abuse.
However, they are more than a shelter. They also have teams of counsellors who work in the community to support women, children, youth, and men throughout Calgary. In 2020-2021 Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter supported and assisted more than 15,533 individuals build safe lives and healthy relationships.
Programs used by Calgarians in 2020-2021
- 385 women and 432 children were supported at the EMERGENCY SHELTER
- 10,318 calls were answered at the 24-hour Family Violence Helpline
- 829 women, 807 children and 22 men accessed the Community Services Counselling Program
- 235 children and 83 parents accessed the Child, Youth and Family Programs
- 109 youth participated in the Healthy Relationships Program
- 590 men and 119 women were helped through the Men’s Counselling Service
- 237 women and 302 children accessed the Court Program
- 1065 participants in the Take The Stand Initiative

Foothills Country Hospice
The Foothills Country Hospice is a place of refuge where all of us – staff & volunteers – work to create an atmosphere of care and dignity for those we serve, including offering bereavement support to loved ones.
Mission: Embracing quality in living, compassion in death, and support in bereavement to the Foothills community.
Vision: Reaching beyond our hospice walls to help one another through the end of life's journey.
Our Facility
Our eight bed, 13,500 square foot facility is located 1.5 km north of Okotoks on an eight-acre parcel of land with beautiful mountain views.
Patient rooms are private, spacious and tastefully decorated, featuring an electric bed, private phone, closets, satellite TV, Wi-Fi, fridge and a dedicated space for personalizing the room with familiar decor and objects.
Meals are prepared on-site in our commercial kitchen at no cost to patients. In addition to our full kitchen and dining area, we have a common living room, patient spa, family room and guest suite.
Outdoors, guests will find a meditative labyrinth, trickling waterfall, forested walking paths and a multitude of gardens.

BC & AB Guide Dogs - Sponsor a Puppy
The mission of BC & Alberta Guide Dogs is to meet the growing demand for professionally trained Guide Dogs and Autism Service Dogs for citizens of British Columbia and Alberta, and PTSD Service Dogs for citizens of British Columbia. At all times we meet or exceed international standards as established by the International Guide Dog Federation and Assistance Dogs International.
BC & Alberta Guide Dogs endeavours to change the lives of individuals who are blind/visually-impaired, children with autism, and Veterans, RCMP and First Responders living with an Operational Stress Injury. It takes two years and upwards of $35,000 to produce one certified dog, provided free of charge to the recipient. For these reasons we rely heavily on our generous and loyal donors.

Operation Christmas Child
The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to provide God’s love in a tangible way to children in need around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Every year since 1993, Samaritan’s Purse has collected shoebox gifts filled with toys, school supplies, and hygiene items for children around the world. Since 1993, more than 178 million children in more than 150 countries have received an Operation Christmas Child shoebox. The project delivers not only the joy of what, for many kids, is their first gift ever, but also gives them a tangible expression of God’s love.
Tens of thousands of volunteers from local churches around the world partner with us to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ at festive outreach events where children are surprised with these shoebox gifts.

In December 2020 the Partaker Wealth management Team was able to volunteer to process boxes at their Calgary warehouse facility. During our evening shift we collectively processed just over 5,600 boxes!
The Magic of Christmas
From our humble beginning in 1983, The Magic of Christmas has grown to a volunteer family of 6,000+ Santas and elves. Every Christmas Eve, our charity:
- uses donated Calgary Transit buses, which we magically transform into Santa’s reindeer;
- sends over 650 volunteer Santa’s and elves out on 6.5-hour bus shifts;
- visits over 650 families across the city, delivering gifts, joy, hugs and food hampers; and
- brings cheer to over 4,500 people in hospitals, care homes and other institutions.
Santa and his elves bring Christmas cheer into the homes and hearts of Calgarians who need it most. We share donations with recipients who are coping with emotional, physical or financial issues. There may have been a death in the immediate family, a lost job, or difficult medical diagnosis, or they might be spending Christmas in a care facility away from their loved ones.
No matter the reason, we work hard to provide each person with festive loving, caring and sharing during a time of year that is supposed to be joyful. With the help of our volunteers, we ensure the spirit of Christmas spreads to everyone on Santa’s route.
The families we visit must be referred to us. Families cannot refer themselves.
How we started:
In 1983, a man named Bob Johnson launched a charity called The Spirit of Christmas. Bob wanted to fight the despair that can be found even during the most joyous time of the year – Christmas.
Bob believed in Christmas beyond material goods; he believed in the spirit that the holiday brings. And those who knew Bob know that he wasn’t one to sit around – his incredible heart and ideas always generated action.
Eager to give his daughters something positive to think about on Christmas Eve, Bob rounded up a Santa suit and a few small gifts. Together, they went to cheer up a troubled family in the neighbourhood. After witnessing the tremendous joy he brought to them, Bob sought other families who could use a visit from Santa to brighten up their Christmas Eve.
Thus, The Spirit of Christmas was built on the motto that carries on today: “Loving, Caring, and Sharing.”
A few years later, the charity’s name was changed to The Magic of Christmas. To this day, Bob’s selfless idea has gone on to be realized in other cities, and even countries.
Of course, here in Calgary, his legacy lives on every year when we load our sleighs.

Wood's Homes

Wood’s Homes is a children’s mental health centre. We provide treatment and support to children, youth and families with mental health needs.
Founded as an orphanage by Reverend George Wood in 1914, we are a place of caring and trust. A place you can turn to for help when you don’t know what else to do, or when you have nowhere else to turn.
Wood’s Homes is based in Calgary (on three large campuses and in several neighborhoods across the city) with locations in Lethbridge, Strathmore and Fort McMurray. Our 500 staff and 100 volunteers provide 40+ programs and services for 20,000 children and their families every year.
We are accredited through Accreditation Canada and have earned two Leading Practice Awards, and Exemplary Standing status three times.
Wood’s Homes is nationally recognized for our innovative and groundbreaking services. We are proud of our research in children’s mental health. In 2001, we established a Research Department and in 2016, we launched the Wood’s Homes Research Chair in Children’s Mental Health, in a partnership with the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Social Work.

Rowan House Society
Safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration and empowerment are the core values at the Rowan House.
Over the past 20 years Rowan House Emergency Shelter has moved from a tiny 2 bedroom basement suite near Black Diamond where we opened in January 2000, to a state of the art, high security 24 bed facility in High River. Since opening, Rowan House has provided family violence prevention and intervention services to communities in Southern Alberta.
Originally named Eagle Women’s Emergency Shelter, the shelter was only large enough to house two women with up to three children each. Funding for outreach was later secured and outreach support began in 2003.

Food Banks Alberta is the provincial association of food banks in Alberta with a mission to strengthen the impact of the Food Banks Alberta network by sharing best practices, innovations, and essential resources between members, stakeholders, and community partners. We are comprised of 88 member food banks across Alberta.
