Nick Scholte began his career as an Investment Advisor with RBC in 1998. He immediately found a niche helping and advising higher-net-worth families, many of whom built their wealth in Vancouver's then budding technology sector. Over the year's since, Nick's practice has grown to include a more diverse array of higher-net-worth clientele, with an equally diverse range of needs. However, common to all of Nick's clients is a desire to be consistently communicated with in a clear and honest fashion. How Nick achieves this can be readily found by exploring other areas of this site - particularly My Practice, My Philosophy and My Blog.
Nick has achieved the dual industry leading designations of Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) and Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI), as well as the title of Vice-President at RBC Dominion Securities. Nick has also completed advanced industry courses such as Investment Management Techniques (IMT), Portfolio Management Techniques (PMT) and the Canadian Options Licensing course.
As Nick's practice grew, he recognized that an ever-shifting investment landscape and evolving client needs demanded a more holistic approach to managing the wealth entrusted to him by his clients. Accordingly, Nick transitioned from the role of a non-discretionary Investment Advisor, to that of a fully discretionary Portfolio Manager, one capable and licensed to make the day-to-day investment decisions directly on his clients' behalf. RBC Dominion Securities has been an industry leader in fostering this approach, and brands its platform for Portfolio Managers as "Private Investment Management." Only a select group of RBC's Investment Advisors can offer you portfolio management services through Private Investment Management. Portfolio Managers must possess advanced investment credentials, extensive experience advising clients, and substantial assets under administration. Further, they must have demonstrated rigorous and consistent portfolio management techniques for a multi-year period before being accepted onto the platform.
While the dollar value of assets that Nick manages is substantial, he has purposely limited the number of households he manages to less than half the industry average. This conscious decision was driven by Nick's desire to always be personally and readily accessible to all of his clients - not just a select few.
Nick is a family man with a lovely wife from Mexico, two younger children, and two older children. Outside of work, Nick spends much of his time ferrying his young children to a widely diverse range of activities. When there is time for himself, Nick loves to watch - and sometimes play - sports, hike and travel. He harbors a secret desire to read more for pleasure, and at home has collected a mini-library of classic books, some of which he has actually read, but most of which await a quieter time in life to open. He also enjoys well-directed and acted movies - particularly dramas - and perhaps because of this, is an active supporter of his young daughter's budding acting career.
