The the reason I got into the industry:
In the spring of 2008, I had an interesting conversation with my mother. Seven months earlier, my father passed away while vacationing in Greece, just prior to the biggest correction we have ever seen (in our lifetimes) in the markets. My mother being somewhat naive to the financial industry, said something like, "Son I need you to look at my investments.". At the time, I was working in a multi-discipline medical facility in Winnipeg as a physical therapist.
Instantly, I understood what prompted the question. Her portfolio showed a significant drop in value due in large part to a poor diversification and asset allocation strategy. Together we began a discovery process to understand her goals and needs. Once those concerns were acknowledged, we established the process to re-balance her portfolio to meet her financial goals and reduce her stress.
That's when I made the decision to enter the financial industry and help others in similar predicaments. This is part of the full service wealth management approach I take with all clients, as my ultimate goal is to help protect my clients from ever going through what my mother did, giving them the peace of mind that their financial affairs are in great hands.
