The 10-Minute Take Podcast Series - Background

Today, RBC launched a new podcast designed to respond quickly to political, geopolitical, macroeconomic and market events in the current environment. Called The 10-Minute Take, the podcast will deliver up-to-date insights and perspectives from RBC’s analysts and experts on financial and economic developments related to the COVID-19 crisis.

Each podcast will be a 10-minute, one-on-one, pre-recorded interview hosted by John Stackhouse and featuring an RBC research analyst, desk strategist or economist around the globe. It will be global in nature whenever possible and will also have Canada-specific episodes. They will publish every day or every few days, as market activity and developments warrant. The goal is to put our research, analysis and expertise directly into the hands of clients around the globe as things are happening.

They will record soon after the markets close and aim to publish by 6:30pm (this may vary). It will be an embedded link on an article page so easily listened to from any device directly and does not require visiting a podcast platform. The podcast will also be shared through RBC Economics and social media. (confirming timing of French translation).

First Episode

In the first episode, John Stackhouse speaks with Craig Wright, RBC’s Chief Economist:

After one month of declines, 10,000 points off the Dow and a lot of “announcement indigestion,” RBC’s Chief Economist Craig Wright says markets are still searching for a bottom. They’re unsure of how to price so much new risk, all at once. Central banks are also struggling to assert themselves, while governments have not been able to get enough new money into the economy. Even when the trillion-dollar checks are cut, will consumers spend and businesses invest?
