I recently completed a summer internship at RBC dominion securities with the Pamela Yoon group. I helped the team with operational assistance, data analysis and market research. I had the opportunity to attend many events and presentations that opened my eyes to career opportunities and how the financial industry impacts all aspects of life. One of the most rewarding parts of my internship was helping the team with process optimization and keeping internal systems running smoothly. I liked finding ways to make things more efficient and organized made a real difference in how the team worked to assist clients and seeing how my work had a positive impact on the team was incredibly rewarding.

One of the highlights of my internship this summer has been an exposure to financial planning. Learning how financial plans are created and presented. Helping clients plan for the future, navigate big decisions and have confidence in their financial future. Having this experience really helped me see the value in financial planning and just how important planning, and wealth management really is. Wealth management isn’t just numbers, it plays a real role in people’s lives.
Another highlight of my internship has been stock research on the global beauty market and north American industrial space. Exploring the global beauty market and presenting a slideshow to the team and management with my fellow intern Amanda Mah was a useful and enjoyable experience. Researching the global beauty market and its ever-evolving trends, innovations and customer habits was very enjoyable and rewarding. Researching large companies like L’Oréal and Estée Lauder and seeing the contrast in management style and approach to generate revenue was very interesting to me. I was particularly interested in the fragrance industry, which has grown at 7% CAGR since 2020 and expected to continue this growth rate over the next 5 years. The growth of the fragrance industry has been driven by social media influence and a sense of emotional well-being tied to scents. combined with the rise of growing demand for premium beauty products the fragrance industry has seen significant growth since 2020. Seeing which companies can take advantage quickly of the rising trends and which may be slow to adapt was useful in choosing what companies have potential in times of volatility and ability outperform their peers.

My research into industrial and manufacturing companies has been eye opening to see the relation between infrastructure, manufacturing and economic growth all connect. I particularly enjoyed researching automotive manufacturing companies that are shifting toward technology research and development, such as Aptiv PLC and Gentex Corporation. These manufacturing companies have already established factories and business connections allowing them to innovate in the field of automotive technology without much difficulty. New innovations like Aptiv’s self-driving and active sensing tech, or Gentex’s active dimmable mirrors and biometric cabin sensing and filtration also have applications outside of the automotive industry. These companies also generate sales from OEM automotive product sales and are generally quite resistant in times of volatility, while still taking advantage of our current tech boom.
Overall, my experience here at RBC Dominion Securities with the Pamela Yoon Group has been incredibly rewarding and fulfilling. Working with the amazing people at RBC has helped me grow and learn so much over such a short time. I am beyond grateful to Pamela and the team for taking me on as an intern this summer, it has been an amazing experience, and I hope to use the skills I have learned and apply them to my future studies and career. Thanks again to the Pamela Yoon Group and RBC!
