Mike was born in Sydney, NS. He graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, and shortly afterwards he moved to Halifax to begin his career in the investment services industry. In 1987 he was awarded the designation Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI), and one year later he achieved the title of Certified Investment Manager (CIM). Mike’s steady, conservative approach to serving the needs of his clients was rewarded in 1999 when he achieved the designation of Associate Portfolio Manager (APM). Today, as a licensed Portfolio Manager, Mike has one of the highest designations available in the investment industry, and maintains a steadfast commitment to the highest standards of ethics and professionalism.
Representative of his integrity and expertise, Mike has been appointed twice to represent his peers in the Atlantic Provinces on the Dominion Securities Advisory Board (DSAB), from 2000-2002 and 2013-2016. The DSAB is a group of ten Advisors from across the country that meets regularly to share their input for enhancing business operations and improving the client experience.
Mike’s wife Wendy is a nurse at the IWK, and they live in Halifax with their four children and their dog Caper. Mike places high priority on community involvement and is an active fundraiser for the IWK Children’s Hospital, and also served on the board of VON of Halifax for six years.
