The $2 Trillion Transition: Canada’s Road to Net Zero

For decades, Canada has taken a piecemeal approach to environmental regulation and to protecting the climate. The result: emissions rose anyway.  All told, we’re putting as much pollution into the atmosphere as we did a generation ago, and we are currently the world's 10th largest emitter of greenhouse gases despite our small population.  In a world where climate change is becoming an ever more urgent issue, this is clearly not a sustainable situation for Canada.

The federal government has committed to reducing Canada's greenhouse gas emissions from 730 million tonnes to around 500 million tonnes by the end of this decade—and eliminating or offsetting the rest by 2050.  In their recent report, "The $2 Trillion Transition: Canada’s Road to Net Zero," the RBC Thought Leadership team aims to map out some of the pathways, as well as the investments and policies needed to achieve Net Zero.  It is an interesting report and hope you have a chance to read it.
