Rising Dividends

When a company we own increases its dividend, how does that impact us?

Getting a raise.

RBC recently raised its quarterly dividend from 87 cents per share to 91 cents per share.  Many companies have a long history of increasing their dividends and I wanted to highlight how this relates to your portfolio.  When I see headlines such as this it makes me think about the section of our statements that shows the annual income that we are collecting from our holdings.  If our holdings increase the amount that they are paying us (ie: boost their dividends) that means we are getting a raise simply for being a shareholder.  Pretty neat concept!  Also interesting to note in the chart is that RBC's dividend increased 61% in between 2012 and 2017.  Not a bad raise!
