A Few Updates at Once

Good afternoon,

 

A sharp drop in markets can quickly transfigure mundane financial news into serious real-life drama. Thinking back, upbeat days don’t get draw anywhere near equal weight in our psyche as the bad ones do, even though good days far outnumber (and outweigh) the bad. This is a strange dichotomy at the heart of long-term investing. Since these can be important inflection points, we’ve beefed up today’s email with several items, much of it weekly, monthly, periodical-ish, but all of it more salient than usual – everything is after a few tough days.

 

Although I’ve shared this chart before, (it’s a few weeks old) it’s worth another look today, to reinforce the idea that troughs tend to end with decent upticks:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Episodes of volatility can be characterized by indiscriminate selling across all assets, regardless of quality. This can present investors with opportunities to add to existing holdings or build new ones.  We continue to explore these.
