As founder of Mainella Private Wealth, Alex collaborates with his thoughtfully constructed, seasoned team to deliver a complete “family office” experience to our clients by leading an extensive network of wealth specialists to anticipate, address, and, ultimately, solve financial complexities that require not-so-simple solutions. He focuses his time on families that require advanced advisory services in areas of family governance and business ownership, building and deepening meaningful relationships with them so he can best serve each one’s bigger picture.
Alex is an established leader at our firm. He has been honoured by RBC Dominion Securities through the President of the President’s Club title, a prestigious internal award that recognizes one advisor every year for their strong commitment to client experience and integrity. He also contributes to a superior client experience firm-wide as a member of the Dominion Securities Advisory Board (DSAB), a select group of distinguished advisors who help shape firm policies, operations, and future services.
Alex has held roles in leadership and relationship management for over 30 years at RBC in virtually every area of financial services – such as personal and commercial banking, capital markets, private banking, and private wealth management – building an extensive network along the way.
Alex relies on a lifelong commitment to education to help his clients, partners, and team members better navigate the ever-changing financial landscape. He is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Chartered Investment Manager (CIM), and is a graduate of world-renowned Harvard Business School, as well as York University’s Business program.
Associate Wealth & Investment Advisor
Shawn acts as the lead conduit between client portfolios and custom portfolio solutions through RBC Capital Markets, RBC Dominion Securities, and our external research providers. He also leads the team’s portfolio management process, drawing upon expert equity research and market research from RBC’s broad global network of analysts. While he focuses on macro strategy and ensuring clients’ portfolios align with their investment objectives, he takes a lot of pride in helping clients navigate the complexities of wealth management to deliver financial peace.
Shawn joined the Mainella team in 2015, bringing deep market expertise from his time as an Economist in the international department of Finance Canada in Ottawa, as well as several years’ worth of experience conducting economic and policy research for several leading institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Shawn has earned the coveted Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, the highest accreditation one can achieve in financial services. He also holds a Master of Global Affairs (MGA) specializing in global markets from the University of Toronto, as well as a Bachelor of Political Science from York University.
Investment Advisor
Nick leads the trading process and supports the portfolio management for Mainella Private Wealth, leveraging his specialized skills to execute, monitor, and report our most complex portfolio strategies. He also acts as the primary point of contact for many of our clients, and greatly enjoys guiding them through every aspect of their wealth management needs. Before joining RBC Dominion Securities in 2020, Nick spent 10 years managing capital and providing strategic financial advice for one of Canada’s largest corporations. In his current role, primarily focused on building long-standing partnerships with clients, Nick carefully considers your individual situation. He takes the time to thoroughly understand your investment, retirement and estate goals, as well as your comfort level with risk and volatility. From there, he builds a plan that is specifically aligned to your needs and goals, and introduces you to any RBC experts relevant to your situation, to ensure we have addressed all your financial needs. Nick is one of the few professionals in Canada that possesses both the coveted Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designations. This expertise makes Nick particularly well-suited to understanding the intersection of portfolio management and taxation.
With more than 35 years of financial industry experience, Ian applies his depth of knowledge to advise our team’s strategic investment direction, focusing on complex and tactical instruments, such as hedging and alternatives. This veteran senior portfolio manager and wealth advisor has extensive knowledge in fixed income, derivatives, risk management, and yield enhancement.
Bringing with him institutional-level management experience in dealing with pension funds, corporate treasurers, and international investors, Ian consults the Mainella team regularly. He also brings a keen macro global focus, informed in part by his work abroad in Singapore.
In addition to holding the esteemed Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) designation, Ian has a Master of Business in investment and finance from York University’s Schulich School of Business and a Bachelor of Applied Science in engineering from the University of Toronto.
As an integral member of the Mainella Private Wealth team, Jennifer leads our wealth planning services. She works closely with our clients, their families, and their advisors to explore tailored strategies to help them meet their personal and business objectives. With a focus on corporate structures, tax and retirement planning strategies, family legacies, and the importance of maintaining family harmony, Jennifer coordinates the ongoing wealth planning advice for clients in all stages of their financial lives.
Jennifer joined RBC Dominion Securities and the Mainella Private Wealth team in 2023, bringing significant experience in providing customized wealth planning advice to clients and their families. In her former role as a private banker at RBC, Jennifer led a team of dedicated professionals to provide wealth planning, sophisticated banking, complex credit, cash management, and portfolio solutions to very high- and ultra-high-net-worth clients and their families for 16 years. Prior to joining RBC as a private banker, Jennifer was a practicing lawyer advising professionals, executives, and business owners on taxation strategies, corporate structuring, succession planning, trusts, Wills, and powers of attorney.
Jennifer earned her Commerce and Law degrees at the University of Toronto. She was called to the Bar in February 1999, and has completed Parts I and II of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants In-Depth Tax Program. She has also earned her Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation and has completed the Canadian Securities Course (CSC).
Associate Wealth Advisor
As an associate wealth advisor, Ivanela conducts financial projections and manages the wealth planning process by strategizing based on clients’ unique financial needs and objectives. She coordinates with the right financial specialists to keep your wealth secure from every angle, while also being responsible for investment trading, conducting transfers, and many other aspects of our client service and wealth management process. Her role comes down to a lot of question-asking, listening, planning, and, most importantly, forming a deep connection with every client.
Having started with RBC Dominion Securities over a decade ago, Ivanela held several roles that helped her learn the inner workings of our complex industry while mastering the execution of operations in our organization. She joined the Mainella team in 2019.
In addition to the Certified Financial Planner® designation, Ivanela holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Guelph, having focused her studies on management economics in industry and finance.

As our team’s go-to expert for the most complicated of wealth plans, Adrian leans on nearly 25 years of financial experience to plan for, support, and – most importantly – anticipate the needs of high-net-worth business owners and families.
Proud to be a longtime member of Mainella Private Wealth, having joined in 2017, Adrian brings invaluable expertise from several other leading advisor teams at RBC Dominion Securities. Jeena facilitates trading and transfers, and coordinates the team’s activities to ensure clients receive the highest standard of service. Colleagues and clients alike appreciate this wealth associate’s friendly demeanor, knowledgeable advice, and commitment to providing the best service possible.
Having honed her technical skills and natural capabilities since joining from another major financial institution as a customer service rep in 2010, Jeena joined RBC Dominion Securities in 2018 and the Mainella Private Wealth team in 2022.
A big believer in professional development, Jeena has completed multiple courses from the Canadian Securities Institute. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts from York University.
As an associate advisor, Nancy is responsible for the day-to-day client requests, portfolio administration, and management and trading. She also guides clients through our wealth planning process and collaborates with in-house lawyers and specialists to develop customized wealth plans. She provides ongoing monitoring of the plans to ensure strategies evolve with every change life brings. She prides herself on providing top-tier service to clients in a personable and professional manner.
Having started her career in financial services in 2007, Nancy gained experience at multiple organizations before joining RBC Dominion Securities in 2018, working alongside Ian Po. She joined the Mainella team along with Ian in 2022.
Nancy holds a Bachelor of Commerce with a finance major from Toronto Metropolitan University.

As an associate, Jenny delivers exceptional client service and enables an extraordinary client experience by ensuring day-to-day business administration and client account maintenance run like clockwork.
Having joined the finance industry 15 years ago – starting as a teller at a large bank and gradually moving her way up the ranks to become an investment associate – Jenny has been a key part of the Mainella team since 2021.
A well-rounded student, Jenny has completed multiple courses from the Canadian Securities Institute, and she also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in toxicology from the University of Toronto. Originally from Hong Kong, she is fluent in Cantonese and understands Mandarin.
